Hi, my name is Ellie McKay and I am a UX Designer and the creator of Safe Plate

This is my Final Year Project for Interaction Design.This project is a culmination of my passion for a topic that deeply impacts those closest to me. I have witnessed firsthand the frustration, worry, and fear that food allergies can cause. The time-consuming process of planning and searching for safe dining options is a significant challenge for many.

I am dedicated to designing for users who are often overlooked. According to a PAFA study conducted in 2024, only 6% of the adult population, approximately 2.4 million people, are allergic to certain foods. These individuals face difficulties in finding safe places to eat and services that cater to their specific needs.

Safe Plate has been developed to address these challenges. It aims to save time by easily distinguishing safe meals from dangerous ones and identifying safe kitchens. Users can filter restrictions and provide feedback on their dining experiences, ensuring a more inclusive and accommodating environment for those with food allergies.
